F&M
Designed by Natalia Chebotar // Moscow
“f&m is a wide range of high-quality baby food. It includes fruit, vegetable, meat and fish purees, cooked cereals and so on (packed in glass jars). It is a seriously scientifically based product, but still is for babies — this is what the packaging should communicate.”
Thought the color coding and design was a great twist to baby food.
Yellow+Blue
Designed by Spear Design Group // United States
“Yellow+Blue = Green, as in organic wines in recyclable Tetra Paks.” Clever approach to creating meaning in their product =D
“Wine descriptors and factoids wrap around the eco-friendly carton: Artisanal wine from the world’s best vintners, made with organic grapes, 93% wine 7% packaging, smaller carbon footprint costs less to ship, contains 33% more wine than a 750ml glass bottle. The type grows up vertically to create visual impact. Signed by the Founder & President of the company, W. Matthew Cain.”
I don’t drink, but found the design and colors quite lovely.
sOccket: Soccer ball generates & stores energy
With over 1.5 billion people—one quarter of the world’s population—live in areas with no access to electricity, a group of Harvard University students developed sOccket, a soccer ball that turns energy from a kick into electricity.
“The portable energy-harvesting device captures the impact energy normally dissipated when the ball is kicked, storing it to charge lights, cell phones and batteries. It works with inductive coil technology, similar to that found in flashlights that power up when shaken. For each 15 minutes of play, it can store enough energy to power a small LED light for three hours. sOccket could eventually help ease the reliance on toxic kerosene lamps in developing nations, thereby reducing the associated health risks.
Currently in the prototyping stages, sOccket has been successfully piloted in Durban, South Africa, and the development team has plans to market a commercial version of the sOccket in Western countries as a high-end tech toy, possibly using a “buy one-give one” model, to subsidize the cost of distributing sOccket in developing nations. Being an all-in-one soccer ball, portable generator, community builder and global health tool, sOccket has attracted several development funding grants and is now in the process of developing production and distribution partnerships.”

So cute! I saw this on Lovely Package and fell in love with the cute illustrations. This box designed as a promotional gift for a business consulting company, but I’d totally just use it as art.
Contrail: Bicycle Chalk Drawing
“Contrail is a concept bicycle device that attaches above the wheel of a bike and covers the bicycle wheel with a layer of chalk. The chalk then creates a trail or mark on the surface of the road, turning the bike into a sort of large drawing utensil. The concept, developed by Pepin Gelardi of Studio Gelardi focuses around the idea of safety in numbers. By using this device, bicyclists will have a clearer path on which to ride safely and out of the way of vehicular traffic. At the same time, as more bicyclists using the Contrail go over a line created by a cyclist before them, the line gets brighter allowing drivers to clearly see a marked bike path where there might be none.”
Great concept for safety!

Crystals & Lasers
“MWM (Matt W. Moore) is travelling to Paris for one month to prepare, from scratch, for his first Paris Solo-Exhibition. He arrives with no art, no supplies, and no firm plan for this new series of canvas paintings. The ideas for the artworks have actualized while processing time spent absorbing French Culture, exploring this Mega-City, the vibrant colors, the exaggerated geometry, and the diverse architecture and fashion of Paris. ”
If this were available as a print, that would be really awesome =)
Recycled Windshield Green Houses
A recycled piece of windshield is nailed to beams and other sheets and slated for a greenhouse with a roof. “I like the idea of recovery,” says maker Sebastien Ramirez, who created this warm cocoon without a budget. So do I =)
Chicago Transit Authority: Mobile Gardens?
Artist Joe Baldwin and the Chicago Transit Authority collaborated to create green spaces with the Mobile Garden concept, flat cars to be added to Chicago Transit Authority trains and play host to native species of plants which require little maintenance. Interesting concept!
